Reformation Day Party (a.k.a. Halloween Party)
Amanda and I had some people over from church last night for two separate, but co-mingled parties. Amanda's party was a good old-fashioned Halloween party, with apple cider, pumpkins, and little kids in darling little costumes. My party was a good old-fashioned Reformation Day party, complete with me in a Martin Luther/monk costume. We didn't make people declare which party they were attending, mostly so my feelings wouldn't be hurt. The Gluhwein, a traditional German mulled red wine, served hot, was a surprisingly well accepted hit. Most everyone who tried it went from, "Hmm, that's, um, interesting." to, "Hmm, you know, it's growing on me." to "Hmm, I think I'll have another glass of whatever-you-call-it." Our first guests showed up a little after six, and the last ones left a little after eleven. I don't know if anyone else had a good time, but I had a blast!
